I ussually name my surfaces starting with the name of the obejct (LAMP),
then a hyphen, then the part of the object it is, and sometimes what
attributes it should have (Dark, Gray, Smooth, DS (double-sided) ) So I
know what I;m doing in Layout. For example...
Lamp-Shade-DS
Would be the Lamp object, Shade Surface, Double Sided Polys. (I don't like
spaces very much -- comes from LOTS o' CLI use...)
Also, If i'm building something big (say, a robot) I name all the Objects
& Surfaces starting with the NAME- convention I made up. Works pretty
well for me... (Arms/Legs ussualy end in L (left) or R (right), too.)
Hope this helps...
